French Train Derails Outside of Paris Ahead of Holiday Weekend – 7 Dead

Paris, France – with a big holiday weekend approaching, a trail derailed outside of Paris by crashing into the Bretigny-sur-Orge train station.

The scenes on French television are horrific. Thus far, seven people are believed dead and scores have been injured. At this point, authorities cannot confirm whether all the deaths occurred aboard the train. It is quite possible that the train’s impact killed people waiting to board other trains.

The SNCF rail authority has not minced words when describing the scene as being disastrous. What is known is that two of the train’s cars came off the tracks.

The train was bound for Limoges and was twelve miles into a 250 mile journey.

The timing could not be worse with the Bastille Day weekend starting.

The crash has led the SNCF to suspend rail travel from the Paris’ Gare d’Austerlitz station.

One witness at the scene said that the trail was moving at a regular pace and was passing through the station. No stop at Bretigny-sur-Orge was scheduled for this train.

The Bastille Day weekend is one of the most traveled holidays in France. Many families leave Paris to visit the countryside and outlying cities during this time.
